Vol. 01 - On the Late Shift

Vol. 01 - On the Late Shift

A Note on the Late Shift -

We started with a question: what does the day look like when you’re the one making it?

For most people we know; designers, writers, founders, people running quiet businesses from their own desks. The working hours don’t line up with the rest of the world’s. The light is different. The pace is different. The objects on the desk get used at strange hours, in strange light, in service of work that doesn’t always look like work.

On the Late Shift isn’t about staying up late. It’s about the hours that belong to you; early morning before anyone needs you, late at night after they’ve gone to bed, the long stretches in between where the work actually happens. Three collections, built around three parts of that day.

The Reset is the slow start. A stoneware mug with the right weight in the hand. A candle lit before the laptop opens. A pocket notebook for the thought that arrives before the first meeting. These are the objects of the morning ritual, the part of the day you protect.

Focus Flow is the working hours. Walnut on the desk: a stand for the headphones, a block for the pens, shelving for your paperwork or books, A leather mat to quiet the keyboard. Objects that make the desk feel like a workshop, not an office.

After Hours is what comes after everyone else is done. The lamp that lights only when you’re working. The candle still burning from the morning. The pen you reach for at one in the morning when the second draft is finally working. These are the late-shift objects; small enough not to take up the desk, considered enough to be worth keeping there.

We built Vol. 01 for the people who do their best work in the margins of the day. The early hours, the late ones, the quiet ones. The hours nobody schedules but everybody who makes things, knows.

This is Vol. 01. On the Late Shift.

Return on Sunday for the next volume.
